Secretary, Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Dr. Victor Koledoye has assured that the Commission will remain resilient and committed to sustain its drive in contributing to educational development in the mandate areas through prompt payment of bursary and the sponsorship of impactful educational programs.

Dr. Koledoye revealed this at the Commission’s head office on Wednesday while playing host to the leadership of the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOS) during a courtesy visit.

The students’ body, led by its President, Comrade Mary Ogunga gave kudos to the management for the efficient administration of the Commission since the expiration of the tenure of the last board.

Comrade Ogunga who presented an Award of Excellence to the Commission’s boss, appreciated the Commission for prioritizing the welfare of students and youths in the state, especially the yearly disbursement of bursary to students from the mandate areas studying in various higher institutions across the country.

She equally sought for the Commission’s endorsement of the Association’s upcoming law competition slated for 3rd March, 2022. She said the competition is organised for law students of Ondo state origin across Nigeria to enhance their intellectual and advocacy skills.

Dr. Koledoye dedicated the award to the staff of the Commission; especially those of the Department of Community Welfare for their assiduous efforts during the process of collating the list of beneficiaries.

Koledoye commended the ”student friendly” government of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for payment approval and prompt release of funds which has made the Commission to deliver on its mandate.

”The Commission will remain committed to the payment of bursary and resuscitate its educational oriented programs including seminars and workshops, career talks, sports, debates and quiz competitions among secondary schools and other impactful programs” Koledoye assured.

Koledoye also revealed that the Commission understands the accommodation plights of the students, promising that management will as a matter of necessity ensure the completion of its hostels which are in three tertiary institutions across the state including; Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Olusegun Agagu University, Okitipupa and Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo as soon as funds are available.

Mr. Wale Mafolabomi, Director, Community Welfare, in a closing remark commended the students for appreciating the Commission’s efforts to positively impact their lives. This he affirmed will serve as catalyst to spur the agency to do more.

He congratulated the students’ leaders on their recent election victories and wished them a peaceful and successful tenure.
