Monday, the 16th of October 2018, the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) began the disbursement of N240 million to 5393 beneficiaries of its bursary scheme for 2015/2016 academic session.

The event which was flagged off by the Chairman of the Commission, Hon Gbenga Edema, had in attendance; Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Wumi Egbayelo-Ilawole, the Board Members and Management staff of the Commission, as well as a sample of the beneficiaries from different tertiary institutions.

While speaking, Hon. Edema said the Akeredolu Administration bought into the bursary scheme which began in 2004 as a way to bring the dividends of democracy to the youths of the Oil Producing Areas, adding that the Commission would continue to give special attention to education to raise the level of literacy in the area. He said preparation for the payment of 2016/2017 edition of the bursary scheme had also started.

On her part, Dr. (Mrs.) Wumi Egbayelo-Ilawole described education as the bedrock of development, being necessary for human capital development.

Cheques were given to Postgraduate students at the venue of the event which held at the Head Office of the Commission at Akure, while e-payment is the mode of disbursement for undergraduates.
